Genius which is known as computer peripheral vendor, has taking next step to produce other gadget. It’s a digital camera, and pocket category. Actually this not the only camera Genius has produced, but this is one of the newest one.

The digital camera named G-Shot P831, using CCD tecnology to capture images. The resolution supported by this digital camera is 8.1 Mpx, pretty high for a pocket camera. 3x optical zoom and 4x digital zoom result total zoom at 12x, but optical zoom only is highly recommended since digital zoom technology basically is pixel interpolation process which image processor software capable to do. To help taking picture, 2.7 inch display is ready, with good quality to display image.

Cool feature coming from G-Shot P831 is smile detector which enable to detect smile from human object to shoot. Also there is face tracker to make your face always in the centre of the image, photo frames template to choose, and voice recording. The camera is also capable in movie recording.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX3, Simple High Tech Camera

Pocket digital camera is about to get closer to Single Reflect Lens capability. This phenomenon generally occur in digital camera at prosumer class, which has pocket camera looks, but with ability near to SLR capability. One good example come from latest Panasonic camera : Lumix DMC-LX3.

This Lumix is the successor of previous one, Lumix DMC-LX2 with some improvement for better performance. DMC-LX3 is designed to solved problems experienced by user, such like the ability to take shoot in narow room, where the image captured is very limited. That's why Lumix LX3 is equipped with extra wide angle lens 24 mm to enable user take picture from narow point. And if it's still not enough, a converter DMW-LW46 is available to make more wide angle into 18mm.

The use of Leica DC Vario-Summicon 24-60mm lens is to make sure the high quality of image could be produce. This lens has maximum diafragma open up to f/2.0. As we know the more diafragma could be opened, it will help producing sharp image in low light condition.

New SLR Form Factor Offered by Matsushita & Olympus

We're all aware that SLR digital camera (or analog) has a boring form factor, or word 'boring' is not suitable, then rigid would be fit. The shape of SLR camera is almost never change, even untill digital era come. But recently, Canon offered DSLR for beginner with their low end EOS series which has smaller size than most DSLR camera has.

Some people believe the design of DSLR affects to selling number. Indeed DSLR camera market is growing rapidly rather than other digital camera class, but untill now, DSLR camera design could not match to other camera class which has more nice and stylish design, or smaller size to make it more handy. DSLR camera is dedicated for hoby or proffesional photographer who make a living from photography. But still, people will love more nice design, or more user friendly to use. This should be increase the sell.

So to, to jack the number of DSLR camera selling, Olympus and Matsushita are developing new generation of SLR camera with smaller and lighter design. They claimed had successfuly build a new format called Micro Four Third System (MFTS). This technology enable vendors to redesign proffesional camera tobe smaller and compact.

So Four Third System (FTS) is ready tobe left. This technology is open standard for censor size and reduce lens size, and also adding lens compatibility. This standard is only developed by Matsushita and Olympus. And lens FTS based is produced by Sigma.

With MFTS, it's possible to produce high resolution image from small device, that's what they claimed. But untill now, there is no further information about the actual size of their new camera system or when they are going to publish it in the market.

Digital Camera Today

Today we've seen many mobile phone vendors equipped their products (read: mobile phones) with high quality camera. You will find mobile phone with 3.2 MPx digital camera easily in the market. or even 5 Mpx! Wow!, It's huge resolution for a camera in the phone. Nokia 6220 classic is one of good example for great camera phone today

So, what about the position of digital camera standalone, this device is only purpose for taking picture, well sometimes there is also additional feature for taking video or even digital music player, but those are not popular enough

Digital camera today especially the pocket category, which aimed for people who don't want to have headache just to take picture, or called 'point n shoot' camera is start to be defeated by digital camera in the phone. Mobile phone is the primary gadget for almost everybody these days, so for these people, bringing mobile phone is very important rather then bringing another gadget. And digital camera is included in the 'another gadget' category. So why botthering our serve with having digital camera if your cell phone could also taking picture with good image quality? that is the point of having cell phone with camera.

But we must admit there are alot new features have been developed by vendors to maintain the existing of digital camera stand alone. One I remember is the smile feature installed in pocket digital camera from Sony vendor named Sony Cybershot DSC-T70. This feature let camera take a shoot by it self whenever it detect smile in the object (human). This is interesting and innovative feature developed by Sony.

That is only one from various innovative feature developed for pocket digital camera stand alone. I'm sure there are alot of feature, the aimed is one, to prevent the digital camera stand alone get wiped away by camera phone.

Actually, there is still category that doesn't get impact from booming high resolution digital camera phone. This category is proffesional camera, or Single Lens Reflect camera. This kind of camera has alot of feature that couldn't be replaced by camera phone.

We will see until when digital camera standalone will survive and how strong the impact of camera phone hit the market to the existence of digital camera stand alone.

Avoiding Digital Camera Shakes

If ever you have seen a picture that is blurred, it is most probably because the camera was shaken while the picture was taken. With traditional photographic film cameras, it was evident only after the negatives and positives were made. However, with digital camera, the captured image can be seen immediately on the LCD screen, and if the image has shaken, then it can be discarded for a new shot.

Digital camera shakes are common with new users. This is primarily because, new users have not fully understood that the shutter-release button must not be pressed twice, but pressed two steps down. The first step locks the focus and exposure while the second step takes the photo. This pressing of the button has to be smooth, otherwise the digital camera shakes and a blurred picture is the result.

The shutter speed also plays an important role in blurring the picture. The shutter speed is the amount of time the shutter remains open to allow light to reach the digital camera sensor. It is measured in seconds or fractions of a second. An image is exposed by the combination of the lens aperture and the shutter speed. A slow shutter speed needs a small aperture (large F-stop number) to avoid over exposure. With a slow shutter speed below 1/60th of a second, over exposure is adequately controlled, but the digital camera is likely to vibrate more, giving a shaky picture.

A tripod is extremely useful to eliminate digital camera shakes. It is generally used by sports photographers who use long telephoto lens, as it helps in close-ups, landscape and panning shots, for timed exposures, for shooting at slow shutter speeds, and for taking photographs in low or dim light conditions. Shooting a fast moving subject, like athletes, or wildlife, tests the photographer`s skill and the equipment. In such cases, camera shakes are most likely to happen, and thus a monopod or a tripod is always used. Digital cameras mounted on tripods always tend to eliminate camera shakes and give sharp results.

A great feature in most high-end digital cameras available nowadays is image stabilization (IS). IS is an anti-shake and vibration reduction technology and is common in digital cameras with long telephoto zooms of 10X and 12X. With IS, sharp images can be obtained even if the camera shakes a little, a slow shutter speed is used, shooting is done in low light conditions, or a tripod is not used. IS was originally developed for video cameras. It is now available in interchangeable lens, consumer and professional digital cameras, which use optical image stabilization. Sports and wildlife photographers use a tripod and IS technology together to get the maximum sharpness of their photographs; however, many other photographers turn the IS feature off while using a tripod.

Digital camera shakes can be eliminated or minimized by the utilization of the above techniques. However, the fundamentals of taking a good shot prove to be most effective in avoiding camera shakes, in the absence of tripods, or IS technology.

The basics of good photography should be followed. You should hold the digital camera with both your hands. You should keep the legs apart with the knees slightly bent forward. Your elbows should be braced with your body and your body braced with some support, if possible. You should generally frame and compose the picture with the viewfinder and not the LCD screen. You should not jab but lightly press the shutter release button two steps down, and during that time, it would be beneficial to hold your breath to prevent any movement of the chest and hands. With this basic technique of good photography, you can be sure that your digital camera will not shake and no picture will be blurred.

Digital Or Film

Having lost count of the number of people who have asked me: "have you gone digital?" I am always left wondering why it’s such a much-asked question. The camera is only a tool in which a photographer creates an image. His personal ability to create a unique image remains the same.

For many forms of photography, digital has long held obvious advantages, but for landscapes the resolution necessary to make larger prints just wasn’t available. But things have changed and digital cameras are fast becoming the tools that most pros use.

Modern digital cameras are perfectly capably of matching the 35 mm film - the format which most landscape photographers begin with. But can they really match the large format film cameras? This is probably the greatest question that all photographers face.

Instant LCD feedback is digitals greatest gift and this enables the photographer to check exposure and composition of their image in the blink of an eye. While this is a big advantage, the hours spent in front of the computer processing the raw images have to be a hindrance. A landscape photographers time is best spent behind a camera not in front of a computer.

The pros and cons of digital photography will remain an issue for some time. At the end of the day a digital camera won’t make a photographers images better. The same values we apply in our photography should remain regardless of which camera we use.

Good photography remains as elusive and as enticing as it ever was; going digital doesn’t change this or make getting good images any easier. It brings technical advantages, and plenty of them, but the majority of photographic techniques never change. Good landscape images come from the photographer’s personal ability, not the ability of a camera. The camera helps, but the creative eye remains the same.

As a landscape photographer I am still hesitant to embrace digital photography and all the qualities that digital has brought to other professionals in different photography fields.

There are a few simple reasons that I still use a film camera:

The authenticity of my images could be questioned if I used a digital camera. It is often assumed that great digital images have been manipulated.

Too much time is spent in front of a computer.

Slide film produce stronger colours than a digital camera.

There are many advantages for changing to digital but I’m going to stick with film; for the time-being that is. With time film cameras will be a thing of the past and all our images will be exchanged for the pixels. But, be wary - believing our work will be superior would be falling into a great trap. For me size matters, the larger I can print an image the better.

These days, digital camera especially consumer or compact digital camera have new rival and competitor.
At the beginning, this competitor was not imaging device at all,no one imagined that this gadget in the future would become serious competitor for digital camera and even analog camera.

Time goes by n rite now,this device has been evoluting into multiple purpose gadget. With this device, you only not able to capture image but even video! and with PIM feature that added lately, you dont need a secretary anymore.base feature from this device is a communication gadget,yes.. I am talking about mobile phone.
No doubt these days, mobile phone or cellular phone is very dangerous rival for camera or digital camera vendor. But since the use of analog camera has became less these days, i will focus only to digital camera.

Naturally, we don't like carrying many things in one hand when mobile. What we want is one thing that could handle everything. And people point to mobile phone for that thing. First, it's only a device with voice conversation only, and slowly but sure, it could handle text massage, then when the first lens installed to mobile phone (even it's quality was dissaster :D ), that is the day people realize that mobile phone could turn into camera!

since then, every mobile phone vendor race to install camera feature for their products to attract consumers. And when 3G technology had arrived,this lens is not just one installed,but 2! One for video call and other for capture moments.

How about digital camera? nothing has changed since analog hit by digital camera appearance. And now, we may say that analog camera is about to become history, defeated by many advantages of digital camera that couldn't offered by analog camera, such as:compact size, no more film roll, shoot with no worry run out film, and so on. digital camera decrease operational budget dramatically and increase productivity also dramatically.

Digital camera uses pixel resolution for image size, and it associates to the file size, the more high resolution you set, the bigger file size come.

Fujifilm FinePix S5600, DSLR Taste That Support RAW Format

Cionsider this camera when you are not ready holding DSLR camera. It looks like DSLR but smaller size. Come with combination of rubber and plastic material that usually used by proffesional cameras. All button position is reachable by single hand, but that hand will tired quickly since the design is not the same with pocket camera design.

Compared to its predecessor, FinePix 5500, there are no major upgrade to this cool gadget. The Fujifilm FinePix s5600 support 5.1 MP, with LCD size, and new choice of ISO. The dimension and shape is not change. The buttons in this camera is user friendly and easy to use.

Using it's own CCD censor that Fujifilm developed by it self, produce a high quality image, rich color, as real as the original view. This camera could handle noise good, even in the low light situation, the using of high ISO helps keep image stay sharp.

Using four AA Alkaline batteries as its power source, Fuji claimed that it could use to shoot 250 times. The volume is increase when you use Nimh AA. This is the successor of the legendary D2x from Nikon. The same with its older brother, it come with WiFi (IEEE 802.11b/g) that uses CMOS censor with 23.7 x 15.7 mm size. It is 1.25 kg weight and also support GPS for adding location information in the description of photos.

Supporting max 12.4 MP (4,288 x 2,848 pixels) and features color changer that able to change color photo into black and wite photo, editing feature is also available. With this feature, it is possible to resize photo right in the camera by using the built it 2.5 inch LCD. Image cropping is also doable using High-Speed Crop. With this feature, you could crop 12.4 MP image resolution into 6.8 MP. The crop area is viewable through the viewfinder.

Choosing Lens For Your Camera

Lens is important component for every camera. Especially for DSLR users, choosing the right lens is a must. But todo this is a little tricky. There are factors to consider when choosing lens for your DSLR.

Your interest what klind of photos you like to take is the main factor. If you like taking picture of view or landscape, using wide lens is perfect choice. If your hobby is shooting animal, use tele lens or macro lens for capturing tiny object with high resolution.

DSLR especially mid and lowend has something called crop factor since DSLR use tinier sensor than analog SLR does. DSLR uses the same sensor size with analog SLR is still expensive and that's why they called them as high end DSLR. Crop factor influences to lens's focal length. Since the size of crop factor is 1,5, so when you use lens with 18 mm focal length, the camera read it as 28 mm. This doesn't count when the lens attached to the full frame DSLR.

You should consider about diafragma too when picking lens for your camera. When you shoot fast moving object alot, so 2,8 diafragma is good choice. It's different when you taking landscape image, it doesnt have to open diafragma too wide. Note that the more a lens support wide open diafragma, the more price you have to pay, and it goes along with the weigh.

The brand is also factor tobe considered. Generally a combination from the same vendor of camera and lens perform best producing image. And the fact is wellknown brand lens is expensive. This doens't matter for those who has unlimited budget. But when the budget is a serious problem, it's alrite to pick a third party lens.
Just remember, before deciding to choose a lens, always find information about it first, there are plenty of source you could find, such like internet, magazine, friends.
Ok, choose the righ lens for you, attach it to your camera.. then start shooting around!!!

Picking Angle

For every photographer, observing the view around objects is somehing to do before taking shoots. There are some general common technique to use

Normal View (Eye Level)
This is normal view with heigh as tall as eyes's position. Photografer's position is straigth line with the object to shoot.

Harvesting

Photo with normal view, object's position is straight with eye's position

High View (high level)
Object we shoot below our eye's or camera position

Man's Teapot

Object shot is lower than camera's position, flat area is dominant

Low View (low level)
Object shot above our eye's or camera position

School Corridor

above is photo taken by level view. Roof is dominant

Bird's View (bird eye)
Objeck we shoot is extremely in low position. this technique generaly place camera above our head, sign by object that vanish high

Sickling Grain

Bird eye place object in very low position, with dominan flat area available, and also the sky as high isn't captured

This photo was taken from the ground. The taro looks so big with extremely tall guy

Those technique have their own characteristic, so that objects we shoot will have a good impression. You could develop these technique doing your own research, just try many angles to shoot.

Biking and Photo Hunting

Biking with photo hunting? Why not? This activity is doable at weekend or holiday. Well, actualy not only biking could be done same time with photo hunting, but other activities too, such like hiking, and even diving!

Yes, beside increasing our health, we would produce many kind of photos for phortofolio. But remember, before we do this, we should observe the field that we re gonna through with the bike. This relates to objects we're gonna hunt and the field condition.

For young people who have great stamina, biking through extrem field would be quait chalenge. But for those who get old with less stamina, they do biking as a light activity, so they would through easy terrain.

So, make your mind, for those biking around the town which usually has flat terrain, so many objects we could shoot, start from market, old buildings, train station, people's activities, and still many more! For those biking around village which usually have tougher terrain, people's activities are interesting objects to shoot

After observing the field we're gonna through, it would be good to plan route. And also check the bike's condition to make sure it's on top conditon, and if ti's not, make it so! parts like brake, tyres, wind pressure, etc. make sure they are in good condition to make the the hunt go well.

And now, preparing the camera. It doesn't matter what camera you use, is it ordinar digicam, DSLR, or even film camera. The important this is the condition of the camera, make sure it's in good condition. Also, pay attention to the bag where you keep the camera, it would be better if we use water resist bag with cushion to protect camera from shock and water. and when it's possible, dont use a huge bag for our confortable when paddling the bike. Dont forget to bring note, for those who like writing, the atmospehere along the trip would be inspiring to write.

Dont forget to bring snack and drink to keep you stay alive :), it's highly recommended carrying many food and water for traveling to remote area like biking to wood, where you will be a little hard to meet setlement. But when you biking around the town, you don't have to bring many of them, just carry some snacks and a tiny bootle of water with money of course, so you could buy them whey run out.

About clothes.. it would be better to wear clothes that prevent our body from getting heat quickly, we could wear bright color clothes to prevent sunlight absorbed by cloth. Remember, bright color absorbs less light then dark color do. And also pay attention to the fabric of cloth we wear, good fabric provide good air circulation, the heat will not traped behind the cloth which affect to our skin.

Here is a personal experience of the writer when biking aroud Bandung city....

It was cold at Caringin (located in Bandung). I planned biking while photo hunting that day. After all preparation were checked, such like top condition of mountain bike, note, snack and water inside a day pack, and of course my SLR camera with 35-70mm lens, I started to paddle. I planned to visit Soreang area.

The area I visited have various people's unique activity.... Began by entering Cigondewah teritory where Sentra Wisata Belanja exist. Here, we could find people's activities in trading. Goods that trade are textile with many kinds and motif. If we good at bargaining, we would have a good quality textile with low price.

After passed Cigondewah, I found a nice moment : farmers harvesting leafy vegetable. I was at Sadang teritory, in Boundary between Kota Bandung and Kabupaten Bandung. Generally farmers here worked not on their own land, but hire land. There were many good moments could be shot by my camera.

I moved on to Mahmud teritory inside Kabupaten Bandung, along the road i observe a raising industrial activity, which is HAT. People here are wellknown as creative people, they made hats using various fabric from waste factory. In their hand, that waste become a useful thing.....

Next route was to Nanjung, where I could see brick industries. We were avle to see brick making provide by locals, started from preparing material, forming, drying, untill roasting.

Plenty photos I'd created, well... not bad to make a photo essay. It was noon already and I had my lunch there, before biking to Gunung Singa Soreang, finish point ot the trip, where we could enjoy view of Bandung city.

Along the way, there were so many photos I made with many kinds of theme. Al least I visited four teritory through one trip with many photos I got, plus I had my body a little more health, hehe

Quality of photo involves many factors, but generally there are 2 factors make a good photo, which are technical aspect and visual aspect. In this article, writer will describe these aspects with a couple of examples.

Learning photographic is easy, start taking a simple object with a simple technique so that you could make a focus and sharp photo. Beside that, we should try to shoot fast and accurate, because nice moment happend fast. After mastering simple techinques, step up to more complex technique and variation. Just dig your potential, and one day you will make a good photo that you could proud of

Technical aspect

this aspect relates to photo quality, line, and color. Image and dynamic line with variuos nice colors represent a simple technical aspect. Try to shoot a simple object around us such like glass or something else. Make the object we shoot has maximum focus and sharp. After taking shot, check the result through PC or you can print it. Check the details of the photo. If the object looks sharp and focus, well you already know about taking a good photo. But don't be satisfied yet, keep up practising by taking another object with many angles.

Visual Aspect

Visual Aspect relates to photo's object, or the object we shoot. There are many object we could try to shoot, don't have to go far, just look around the house, you will find plenty objects that you could shoot as a subject for your photo. Our family, things inside the house, animal's expression, our pets, and so on.

Photo above describes a tradional market. Object captured are man and market situation. Deep prespective of the photo could be seen by several kiosks form a 'straight line'. The masrket's atmosphere is distincly seen by man and goods

Choosing Digital Camera Tips

There are various type of digital cameras out there, from low to high price, from low features to complete features. No doubt we must be careful when deciding to pick digicam that match with the need and budget. Well, here are few things tobe considered before buying digicam ....

Shape

Make up your mind, gonna use digicam or DSLR. Actually, digicam non SLR could be divided tobe : 'consumer digicam' and 'prosumer digicam'. But in this article, writer decide to call them as 'digicam'.
For Consiseness, it is better if you choose digicam. There plenty type and branded of digicams. Names are Sony, Canon, Nikon are leading the market. This type of camera has fully automatic setting to take photo while manual setting is available too. For some people who don't want tobe confused by various setting before take a shot, this features is gonna make them happy. And additional feature to this digicam is the ability to record moving image (movie) with various format file. The result of course could be playback with your player or PC.

Note that this type of camera has fix lens, which mean that you cannot change the lens at all, what you can do to maximize the ability of the lens is to use a converter and attach additional lens.
For those who want a maximum quality photo, well they could pick DSLR (Digital Single Reflect Lens). With this type of camera, you could explore many possibilities about taking photo, its benefit is the image quality, wide range of ISO you could pick, many accessories available. The most important factor, DSLR camera is changeable lens. There are so many kind of lens out there that you could use with your DSLR, from wide lens, ultra wide lens, zoom lens, or macro lens. The bad news about this camera is its size. This kind of camera has a big body and not practical at all.

Purpose

What do we buy digical camera for?
is it for documentation of an event or for more proffesional purpose?
For taking a snapshot, recreation, or simple documentation of event, ordinary digicam is enought. you will not be bothered by the size or the weight of the camera. Even tough its still possible to do all the documentation mentioned above using DSLR, but from the practical side, the price you pay is too high

Generally, DSLR is use for hoby or proffesional activity. People using this camera consider that taking shot is not 'point and shoot', there are many factors tobe set, that is why they take wonderful pictures, art image, or dramatical event. Their image could 'talk' or 'tell story'...

Resolution

Resolution capacity of a camera is known as megapixel (MP). For normal quality image, 2 megapixels or less image is enough for documentation purposes. But for printing or publishing purpose, the image should 6 megapixels or more to keep the quality of the image maximize
Less megapixels capasity usually found on lowend digital camera, while more capasity is supported by highend digital camera such like DSLR. But these days, there is digicam that reach above 6 megapixel capacity yet it's not DSLR.

Also, Additional source such like finding information or article about digital camera would be nice. There are many review about digital camera in magazines or websites. This information could be held by us before deciding which camera we're gonna pick. The reviews usually contain many subjects, from design, technology, image quality, price, performance, and so on.

What kind of camera do you use? Is it a point 'n shoot camera? or prosumer camera?, or even an SLR camera? Almost averybody has camera these days, espesially digital one since it's getting cheap with no additional cost you have to pay, such like film or printing to see images you've taken. But, no matter what camera you use, I am sure you would use the camera to capture nice view, to celebrate something, record unforgetable moment, or anything else. Definitely that camera has made your life more fun and colorful.

Digicam or Digital Camera made doing photographic stuff become alot easier. We could take as many as pictures without having to worry you'll be running out of film, you could see the result just in a moment after taking shot, and when you don't like a pict you've taken, just delete it. It's so simple.
